Ok, so this coming Sunday, March 9th, it’s me, my bike and the 108km of the Cape Argus Cycle Race!
Training is done, bike is serviced, road trip is planned, boss has been convinced that I MUST leave early tomorrow from work, and tapering wraps up today. Oh, the legs. They still need a shave…
Even though I’ve done a lot of races (mostly up here in Gauteng), this year will only be my second Argus event. But I must confess (and concede to all the Capies down south!) that the Argus is definitely the most awesome experience any cyclist can ever have. 36,000 cyclists, thousands of spectators, the ocean, nature. Oh, and of course THE MOUNTAIN.
Last year being my first attempt at the Argus, I managed to achieve a 3h17 finish time. This year it’s balls to the wall for the ever-elusive, near-mythical sub-3!
Wish me luck!
